This article was originally published in January 2025, following Woongjin's visit to CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Some of the products and companies featured have since seen developments that reflect the fast-moving nature of the technology landscape. Where relevant, editorial update notes have been added inline. We are sharing this piece as a record of the trends that defined 2025, and as context for the directions that CES 2026 continued to build on.

CES 2025 opened the year with a clear signal: technology is no longer just about capability. It is about connection — between industries, between humans and machines, and between innovation and responsibility. Woongjin attended CES 2025 in Las Vegas and came back with observations across three areas that sit closest to everyday life: Mobility, Digital Health, and Sustainability.

Sony Honda Mobility, the joint venture between Honda and Sony, unveiled AFEELA 1 at CES 2025: an electric vehicle equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The vehicle uses precision sensors to capture the driving environment and leverages AI to actively assist the driver, making it a compelling example of cross-industry convergence between automotive and consumer electronics.

Editorial Update – March 2026 On March 25, 2026, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) officially announced the discontinuation of development and launch of both AFEELA 1 and its planned second model. The decision followed Honda's reassessment of its electrification strategy announced on March 12, 2026, which meant SHM could no longer access the technologies and assets originally planned to be provided by Honda. As a result, SHM determined it had no viable path to bring the vehicles to market as originally planned, and issued full refunds to reservation holders in California. While the AFEELA programme has come to a close, it remains a landmark case study in cross-industry collaboration and the ambition to embed AI deeply into the driving experience.
HERE

HERE provides a location-data PaaS covering over 200 countries, enabling a wide range of mapping and navigation services. At CES 2025, HERE introduced the HERE AI Assistant, an AI-powered intelligent guidance system built for software-defined vehicles.

Using natural language, the assistant interprets driver requests, driving habits, preferences, and real-time traffic conditions to suggest personalised routes. Drivers can ask the assistant to include landmarks, rest stops, petrol stations, or restaurants along their journey, making navigation feel genuinely conversational.

KUBOTA

Japanese industrial machinery manufacturer KUBOTA demonstrated how AI-driven robotics can transform agriculture and construction sites. Its four-wheeled robot KATR won the CES 2025 Best of Innovation Award. It uses articulated leg movement to keep its cargo level even on slopes, carries loads of up to 240 kg, and is compact enough to fit inside a commercial minivan. KATR can also be operated remotely, making it a practical tool for demanding field environments.

Hanyang University's Game Research Lab received the CES 2025 Best of Innovation Award, a notable recognition that is rarely given to a university research institute. Their submission, TD Square, is a tinnitus digital therapy device that combines sensory feedback systems with virtual reality technology.

Using generative AI, the device creates an avatar that visualises the patient's tinnitus. The patient then interacts with and controls that avatar within a virtual environment, gradually reducing the psychological impact of the condition. The approach blends clinical therapy methodology with immersive technology, pointing toward a broader future for AI-assisted mental and neurological health treatment.

Singapore-based startup FLINT presented a paper battery designed to be environmentally responsible from manufacturing through to end of life. Unlike conventional batteries, FLINT's product contains no lithium, cobalt, or nickel, and uses a water-based electrolyte, improving both sustainability and safety throughout the production process.

The batteries are scalable across applications, from small IoT devices to larger industrial equipment, making them a credible alternative for organisations looking to reduce the environmental footprint of their energy infrastructure.

The technology trends observed at CES 2025 were evolving in step with a broader question: how do we make life genuinely better? Artificial intelligence is connecting people and objects more intuitively through natural language. Robotics and mobility technologies are becoming more precise in interpreting and executing human intent. And sustainability is no longer an afterthought; it is being built into the foundation of new products from the start.

CES 2025 confirmed that the direction of technology is not just toward capability, but toward compatibility with human needs, with the environment, and with the generations that will inherit what we build today. Woongjin left Las Vegas with a renewed sense of purpose: to bring the inspiration gathered at CES into meaningful business innovation alongside our customers.

The trajectory from CES 2025 to CES 2026 is clear: what began as emerging signals, including AI integration across industries, sustainable materials, and immersive health technology, became mainstream conversations within a single year. The pace of change observed on the CES floor reflects the same urgency that Woongjin brings to its customers' digital transformation journeys.
