In June 2025, Woongjin selected Malaysia as a strategic hub for expanding its presence in Southeast Asia and established Woongjin Asia in Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the company has been actively working to accelerate business operations in the local market. By participating in various forums and exhibitions, Woongjin has been introducing its technologies and business capabilities while expanding customer touchpoints across the region.
The first WOONGJIN PEOPLE story of 2026 begins in Malaysia. Starting from her internship experience in Korea to becoming part of the founding journey of Woongjin Asia, we take a closer look at the Malaysian business landscape through the story of Mahirah Alwani, who has been on this journey from the very beginning.
Hello, my name is Mahirah Alwani, and I am a Software Engineer in the Software Engineering Team at Woongjin Asia.
Working overseas had always been one of my dreams. I believed that studying abroad could become an opportunity to make that dream a reality, and during my studies in Korea, I joined Woongjin.
My time working in Korea was extremely meaningful. Working alongside colleagues who demonstrated strong diligence and responsibility allowed me to learn the standards required for developing and operating enterprise systems.
During my time at the headquarters, I was involved in the operation of the service system for WRMS (Woongjin Rental Management Solution), one of Woongjin's flagship industry-specific solutions. My responsibilities included analyzing business logic, conducting testing and validation, and ensuring that the system functioned properly across various operational scenarios.

What stood out most about Woongjin's culture was the strong sense of ownership and responsibility toward work. Whenever system changes were made, there was always careful consideration of their impact on operations and customers, with close attention paid even to small details.
The working environment was structured yet highly supportive. Senior developers never hesitated to encourage questions, and they actively welcomed discussions whenever there were unclear business logics or technical challenges. While there were moments of strict feedback, those experiences helped me learn from mistakes and grow, both technically and professionally.
Overall, I felt that Woongjin values growth grounded in responsibility.
Woongjin Asia, established in Malaysia in June 2025, is Woongjin's overseas subsidiary and a key strategic hub for acquiring and supporting customers across Southeast Asia. The company is actively expanding into the local market with a focus on WRMS, which has already proven its capabilities in the Korean market.
While system integration (SI) development is primarily handled by the headquarters in Korea, Woongjin Asia is responsible for ensuring system stability, operational continuity, and providing localized support tailored to the on-site operating environment.
In addition, Woongjin Asia includes a Global Development Center (GDC) dedicated to overseas projects. Working closely with the headquarters in Korea as well as key overseas locations in California and Georgia in the United States, the organization flexibly supports cross-border global projects.
My primary responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing system logic for the modules I am in charge of within WRMS, as well as identifying and responding to issues that arise during system operations.
When system changes are required, I coordinate closely with the SI team at headquarters, and I conduct testing and validation to ensure that changes are accurately reflected in the production environment.
Across both locations, I consistently felt that Woongjin places a strong emphasis on responsibility and trust. Regardless of where we work, system stability and data accuracy are prioritized, and there is a shared commitment to keeping promises made to customers.
Teamwork is another value that transcends regions. Even across different locations, teams actively collaborate to solve problems, openly share knowledge and experience, and support one another. This collaborative culture has left a strong impression on me.
The most rewarding moment was realizing how much broader my responsibilities had become compared to when I worked at headquarters in Korea. Beyond completing my own tasks, I now explain system logic so that all team members can understand it and organize or share information when needed.
In particular, when Woongjin Asia began taking the lead on a project for a major electronics manufacturing company, I became responsible for one of the core modules ― the service module. Taking ownership of such a critical area brought both a strong sense of responsibility and fulfillment. This experience helped me approach my work more thoughtfully and proactively, becoming a significant milestone in my personal growth.

Our team's strengths lie in open communication and an active sharing culture. When issues arise, we prioritize sharing information quickly and analyzing problems together rather than working in isolation. While individual problem-solving is valued, we encourage asking questions and sharing challenges to improve efficiency and strengthen the team's overall understanding and capabilities.
We also make an effort to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Every two to three months, we participate in activities such as bowling, pickleball, or badminton. These activities help us recharge outside of work while strengthening teamwork and relationships, which positively impacts collaboration in our day-to-day work.
I believe Woongjin's strengths lie in its deep expertise in enterprise systems and its ability to collaborate across regions. Beyond delivering technically stable systems, Woongjin has the capability to implement solutions that reflect the actual operational environments and business needs of each country.
Another key strength is the culture of collaboration, where headquarters and overseas organizations work as one unified team. By sharing responsibility for system quality and problem resolution, Woongjin effectively combines centralized expertise with localized execution.
My goal is to grow into a system expert who deeply understands both the business operations and system logic of rental platforms. I aim to build strong expertise in how rental services are managed and operated through enterprise systems.
In the long term, I hope to become someone that junior colleagues can rely on ― sharing the knowledge and experience I've accumulated and contributing back to the team to support stable and efficient system operations.

Woongjin Asia is steadily establishing its presence in the Malaysian market by engaging directly with customers and building its organization step by step.
By connecting experiences gained in Korea with global operations, Woongjin continues to deliver consistent values regardless of location. Looking ahead, Woongjin IT aims to further strengthen its presence on the global stage, grounded in customer trust.
We look forward to your continued attention as Woongjin Asia grows into a key business partner across Southeast Asia.
